How About Taking A Drive?
You can take a drive to the Upper Yarra Dam and on the way, spend some time sight-seeing ………
First stop is the beautiful river walk by the Warburton Caravan Park.
Then travel on to the Brahams Creek Winery and the Riverside Food Products Company. This is a small factory that exports beautifully presented bottled fruits and vegetables to 23 countries around the world. The shop is a bonanza of exotic goodies which make wonderful gifts.
Next stop is the Little Peninsula Tunnel, followed by the Big Peninsula Tunnel which were dug in the rock in the 1860′s to divert the river so that the river bed could be worked for gold. After a swim in the pool at Big Peninsula, it is onto the Reefton Hotel for some refreshments in one of the oldest country timber pubs in Victoria. It is currently under restoration to return it to its former glory as in the days when it served goldminers.
After this fascinating trip back in time, travel on to the Reefton Trail Rides, where you can horse-ride through the bush and by the river. The scenery is spectacular!
The next port of call is the Upper Yarra Reservoir Park. Here there are several delightful short walks, and a beautifully kept barbecue area.
From the park it is a short distance to the reservoir and spillway.
The whole trip is approximately 24 kilometres long, but it could take you all day!
